OPENING PROMO  |  SERIAL PODCAST

Concept: Creating an artistic representation of Sarah Koenig’s investigative journey of the Baltimore case in 1999, I imagined her scribbling down notes in a sketchbook. Dates and information overlap each other revealing the main subjects in loose line art drawings and abstract watercolor ink that compliments the fast-paced written words. The style of the drawings expose a sense of ambiguity of the case—how all the information she gathers becomes gradually unstable.

The gestural style of the line work is intended to convey a vulnerability between the individuals involved in this case.Although this is a serious murder case, Sarah presents each episode in a casual and honest manner, which is why I wanted to keep the mood slightly light and not entirely dark and moody.

Brief: Serial is a podcast exploring a nonfiction story over multiple episodes. Sarah Koenig hosts the series, investigating a buried past through her point of view. To visually narrate with the audio, we execute SERIAL into the mainstream audience as an opening promo.
